Welcome to Doubletree Hotel Portland, Portland's First Sustainable Hotel.
The Doubletree Hotel Portland is committed to sustainable practices as the way we do business. Our key priorities include community involvement, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and localized purchasing while providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for every guest.
We pledge to:
- Lead by example, sharing our successes and failures with our community and industry partners.
- Hold every decision to the standard of our triple bottom line: benefitting the community, providing the best workplace for our employees, and enhancing our guest experience.
- We look to grow our business responsibly, by tracking the progress of our efforts and by continuously seeking areas for improvement.
- And, above all, to maintain transparency in all of these efforts.
We understand that sustainability is a journey, and we're involved in the ongoing process of improving our operations and conserving resources. You can learn more by viewing our annual Sustainability Report, but here are a few of the steps we've taken so far:
- First lodging property in Oregon to achieve a Green Seal certification
- ENERGY STAR® Certified
- Divert 68% of our overall waste stream from landfills
- Compost an average of 14-17 tons per month
- Retrofits have reduced water use by 15%, and energy use by 32%
- Employee transit subsidies save 9,500 gallons of gas each year
- Have an aggressive property-wide recycling program
- Reduce our carbon footprint through a biodiesel shuttle and guest offset program
- Offset 25% of our annual electricity use by purchasing 900,000 kWh of renewable power
- Purchase 65% of our food products seasonally within a 500-mile region
And, as part of ongoing efforts to make Portland a healthier place to live, work and do business, the Doubletree Hotel Portland will seek first to purchase equipment, products and materials that are recyclable, made of recycled content and reduce waste. Per our Purchasing Pledge, we will work to mitigate fuel waste, and will create demand for environmentally harvested products, by purchasing local products from like minded vendors.
